From its beginning in the early 1830’s, the Village of Glen Ellyn’s history has been richly textured by the people who pioneered the prairies and made the fulfillment of their dreams our legacy. To continue to inspire these dreams, a group of dedicated volunteers founded the Glen Ellyn Historical Society in 1969. Today, the Society’s programs encompass activities involving hundreds of residents of the Village of Glen Ellyn and surrounding communities. Members of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society are proudly responsible for:
*The operation and support of Stacy’s Tavern Museum (in partnership with the Village of Glen Ellyn), a wayside stagecoach inn built in 1846. The Tavern has been restored on its original site. Exhibits and additions to the artifact collection are ongoing.
*An active house plaquing program to research the identify Village structures of historical significance. Plaques placed on the structures are great additions to Glen Ellyn’s sense of living history.
*Educational outreach including lectures and seminars on historical topics to a variety of audiences, school programs, an artifact and archive collection, a library, and participation in Village activities.
